Lake Wateree, SC Homes and Real Estate for Sale

Lake Wateree, named after the Wateree Native Americans, is a man made lake created in 1920 when the Wateree River was damned. It has 216 miles of shoreline throughout Kershaw, Fairfield, and Lancaster Counties. The expansive lake that spans almost 14,000 acres is owned and managed by Duke Energy.

The lake has hundreds of coves to explore. Beautiful rolling hills and exquisite homes make for great sightseeing as you enjoy the lake on a boat ride, canoeing, or kayaking. Lake Wateree is known as an “outdoorsmen delight” because of the large populations of several different types of fish and abundant wildlife along the shores. Along the shores, there is also a state park, a bird refuge, and the Shaw Air Force Base Recreation Center.

Residents enjoy easy access to I-20, making downtown Columbia an easy commute. There are endless possibilities of entertainment in the city, including great shopping varying from unique boutiques to national chains, as well as restaurants for every taste and price range. Camden is also a nearby city which offers a small town feel with many modern conveniences, as well as Springdale Race Course where there are equestrian races to enjoy!
